Ube vs Coffee vs Matcha

Most people who try ube are not switching from another ube powder. They are switching from their coffee, or from a matcha they never really liked.

“Finally, ube that tastes like home.”

I grew up on my lola's ube halaya, so I'm picky. Most powders taste fake or chalky, this is the real thing. Gently sweet, earthy, that smell when you open the bag. My morning latte feels like a little piece of home now.

“One ingredient. Flip the label, that’s it.”

I've been burned by 'superfood' blends with 40 ingredients and mystery 'natural flavors.' This is literally just organic purple yam. No sugar, no coloring, nothing to decode. That's why I trust it, and it tastes better than the ones that try harder.

“I replaced my 2pm coffee, the crash is gone.”

Mom of two with a full-time job, so I was living on coffee and paying for it every afternoon. Now it's an ube latte at 2pm instead: steady energy, zero jitters, and I actually wind down at night. I feel lighter and more balanced through the day.

      Let's prep your UBE latte

Scoop 1 teaspoon (4g) of Ube powder into your favorite mug or glass. Add a splash of hot water (not boiling) to activate the powder.

Whisk into a smooth, glossy purple paste using a small whisk or frother, no lumps.

Top up with your milk of choice, almond, oat, coconut, or dairy. Warm, frothy, or iced… it’s your call.

      Steady energy. Nothing added.

UBIYAM® is pure, single-ingredient purple yam, a root that is naturally high in fibre and built on complex carbohydrates rather than stimulants.

No additives. No artificial flavour. Just real ube, gently dried to preserve its colour and nutrients.

Ube's deep purple comes from anthocyanins — the same family of plant pigments found in blueberries and blackcurrants. Purple yam contains acylated forms of them, which is also why the colour survives drying and milling without any dye.

Purple yam is naturally high in fibre — 6.5g per 100g — and much of its starch is resistant starch, the kind that resists digestion in the small intestine and reaches the gut intact.

Ube's starch granules are small and dense, so they break down gradually rather than all at once. That is where the steady, even feel comes from — there is no caffeine in it at all, so there is nothing to spike and nothing to crash from.

Resistant starch is what gut bacteria feed on. In studies on Dioscorea alata — the same species as our ube — its resistant starch has been shown to encourage Bifidobacteria and the short-chain fatty acids they produce.

One ingredient. Endless ways to nourish your day.

It blends beautifully into lattes, smoothies, oatmeal, desserts, and baking recipes.

      No.

UBIYAM contains zero added sugar. The subtle sweetness comes naturally from the yam itself.

UBI + YAM. "Ubi" is how ube is spelled across much of Southeast Asia, and ube is a purple yam — so we simply put the two together. One name, one ingredient.

That is the proof it is real. Ube's colour comes from anthocyanins — the same pigments as in blueberries — and they shift with pH. Oat milk, dairy and almond milk each give you a slightly different purple. A food dye would not move at all.

No, and they are not even related. Ube (Dioscorea alata) is a yam whose flesh is purple all the way through, and it tastes sweet and vanilla-ish. Taro is white with purple flecks and tastes starchy. Most "ube" desserts you have had were taro plus purple dye.

Ube is high in resistant starch — starch with small, dense granules that digests slowly rather than releasing all at once. There is no added sugar; the 7.5g per 100g is what occurs naturally in the yam. If you manage a condition such as diabetes, check with your doctor about how it fits your plan.

Yes. Zero caffeine, zero theine. A lot of our customers use it specifically as the 4pm and after-dinner drink they cannot have coffee for.

Probably — they are not similar. Matcha is grassy and bitter and usually needs sugar to be drinkable. Ube is naturally sweet with vanilla and hazelnut notes and does not need anything added. "I am not a matcha person" is one of the most common things new customers tell us.
